このIML-2_goldfishは、1994年のSTS-65/IML-2ミッションで向井千秋飛行士がISSに連れて行った実験生物の一つの金魚(弥富金魚)をモチーフに、スペースシャトルのマニュアルを素材に製作した作品である。
猿や他動物の宇宙服はさほど違和感はないが、この「魚」の宇宙服はある種の面白さ、絶対にあり得ないものだが、宇宙へ行った動物としての存在を表す「宇宙服」(厳密には"与圧服"であるが、ここは一般的にわかりやすく宇宙服と言っておく)という物の存在で表現する意味は非常に大きいと感じている。

1988年横須賀市生まれ。
2014年東京造形大学美術学科彫刻専攻卒業、東京造形大学卒業研究・卒業制作展「ZOKEI賞」受賞。

This work, IML-2_goldfish, was created using a space shuttle manual as a material, based on the motif of a goldfish (Yatomi goldfish), one of the experimental creatures Astronaut Chiaki Mukai took to the ISS on the STS-65/IML-2 mission in 1994.
While space suits of monkeys and other animals are not so strange, this “fish” space suit is a kind of interesting and absolutely impossible thing, but I feel that it is very significant to express the existence of a “space suit” (strictly speaking, it is a “pressure suit,” but I will call it a space suit for general understanding) that represents the existence of an animal that has gone into space. I feel that it is very significant to express the existence of animals in space.


Atsushi Adachi　
Born in Yokosuka, Japan in 1988.
Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 2014, majoring in sculpture, and received the “ZOKEI Prize” at the Tokyo Zokei University Graduation Research and Graduation Works Exhibition.
