《FUSION》は、廃棄されるはずだった“服のハギレ”から始まる、循環の物語を内包した作品である。
2023年、松下康平は自ら開発した炭化装置によって、縫製会社で大量に発生するハギレを炭化。環境負荷の高いアパレル産業において、従来はコストをかけて焼却処分されていた廃棄布を、ダイオキシンを発生させることなく炭化し、CO₂排出を大幅に削減する技術へと転換した。この取り組みから生まれた炭を原料に開発した鉛筆は評価され、日本文具大賞 サステナブル部門賞を受賞している。
《FUSION》は、そのプロセスそのものを可視化する。
作品には、
・原形のままの服のハギレ
・炭化された状態の素材
・鉛筆の芯へと加工するために微粉砕された炭粉
・そして完成した鉛筆の芯
それらが段階的に配置され、最終的に“描くための芯”は透明なアクリル樹脂の中にあえて封じ込められている。
本来、未来を描くために存在するはずの鉛筆の芯を、あえて閉じ込めるという行為。
それは、資源循環の可能性と同時に、私たちが無意識に閉ざしている未来への問いかけでもある。
布から炭へ、炭から学びへ、学びから未来へ。
素材の変容と社会実装、そして芸術表現が融合（FUSION）する本作は、単なるオブジェではない。環境問題、産業構造、教育、創造性という複数の領域を横断しながら、廃棄物の中に眠る価値を提示するコンセプチュアルな作品である。
“捨てられるはずだったもの”が、“未来を描く道具”となり、
さらに“思考を促す芸術”へと昇華する。

FUSION embodies a narrative of transformation that begins with discarded textile scraps.
In 2023, Kohei Matsushita utilized a carbonization system of his own design to process fabric offcuts generated by sewing factories. Within the environmentally burdensome apparel industry, such scraps had long been incinerated at significant cost. Through carbonization, Matsushita succeeded in converting even synthetic fibers without emitting dioxins, while substantially reducing CO₂ emissions. From the byproduct charcoal, he developed pencils intended for children’s learning and creative expression. The work incorporates:
Unaltered textile scraps
Carbonized fabric
Finely pulverized charcoal powder prepared for pencil cores
Completed pencil leads
These elements are presented sequentially, tracing material transformation. Yet in a deliberate gesture, the pencil lead—originally created as a tool to draw the future—is sealed within transparent acrylic resin.
To encase a drawing instrument is to suspend its function. This act becomes both a meditation on circular resource systems and a question directed at society: what futures do we confine, knowingly or unknowingly?
From fabric to charcoal, from charcoal to learning, from learning to future imagination—
FUSION integrates material science, environmental implementation, and artistic expression. It is not merely an object, but a conceptual work that traverses environmental issues, industrial structures, education, and creativity.
What was once destined for disposal becomes a tool for imagining tomorrow—and ultimately, a work of art that invites reflection.
FUSION does not mark the end of a cycle, but the beginning of a new one.
